Blood pressure equipment or sphygmomanometer are used for measuring and monitoring blood pressure. There are three types: mercury, aneroid and automatic
Mercury Sphygmomanometer - This is the most common blood pressure measurement equipment. It's durable, easy to read and doesn't need to be readjustment. The mechanism works by gravity and gives consistent, accurate readings. It has a long, tubular gauge made of glass or plastic. Disadvantages of this type are that is bulky, and needs a firm flat surface when being used.
Aneroid Sphygmomanometer- It is a portable type lightweight meter with a dial gauge. Some even have a built in stethoscope. It is not as reliable as the mercury type and has to be checked for the accuracy.
Automatic equipment - This is contained in one unit very easy to handle. It leaves very less chance for human error. The cuff may fit around the wrist or arm. More expensive models have automatic inflation and deflation systems. The major disadvantage is that Complex, fragile and sensitive to body movements. Automatic meters are of three types namely Manual Inflation Monitors, Automatic Inflation Monitors With Fuzzy Logic, Wrist Monitors
