Arthroscopy is a procedure that involves a fiberoptic endoscope to see the interior of joints. It is used to diagnose various joint diseases, injuries or deformities to perform surgery on the joint. The surgery is performed using arthroscopes implying minimum incisions.
Arthroscopic instruments include fiber-optic cameras and small surgical instruments to visualize the intra-articular structures. The surgery includes trimming of meniscal tears, removal of loose bodies, trimming of articular cartilage flaps, debridement of scar tissue, and other abnormalities. Arthroscope simplifies the diagnosis of the size, depth, and condition of these articular cartilage lesions.
