Cartoning machines or pharmaceutical cartoners are pharmaceutical packaging machines that form cartons: folded, erect, close, sealed cartons and side seamed.

Cartoners are specialized machines that use paperboard and corrugated material for packing.
Features of Cartoning Machines
Cartoners are suitable for bag-in-box application and are easy and simple to operate. Cartoning machines are capable of manufacturing different sized/styles cartons. Cartoners have different output ranging which is referred as CPM (cartons per minute) and this depends on whether the machine is vertical loading, intermittent cartoning or a continuous motion model. These machines can handle blister strips and other pharmaceutical packing.
Types of Pharmaceutical Cartoners
- Horizontal cartoner: This machine erects a folded carton. A product is filled horizontally through an open end and this is closed by tucking the end flaps of the carton or by applying adhesive. These machines are used for packaging confectionery, food stuff, medicines, cosmetics etc.
- Vertical cartoner: This machine erects a folded carton, filling a product vertically.
- Wrap-around cartoner: This machine wraps a carton board around a product and seals it by applying adhesive or by engaging pre cut tabs. Mostly used for medicines and foodstuff.
- Bag-in-box cartoner: This is a vertical cartoner. It erects folded and side seam sealed carton blanks which contain a tube of flexible film. The base of the tube is sealed. The bag is vertically filled with product and sealed before the carton flaps are closed.
Cartons are Available in Variety of Shapes
Hinged lids, double wall, hexagonal, frame wall, triangular, tapered trays, wave shaped cartons etc.
