Homogenizer

Pharmaceutical homogenizers are used to blend different kind of liquids uniformly, specially liquids having different properties. Homogenizer actually reduces the size of particles of one material and dissolves it evenly throughout the other material. Homogenization is defined as an intensive mixing of mutually insoluble phases to obtain a suspension or emulsion.

For instance, homogenising of milk involves reduction of size fat spheroids and dispersing them through the milk.  Homogenizers are also known as micronizers. They are one of the best known pharmaceutical mixers.

Homogenization Process

Homogenization is a process which is used to emulsify liquids. The  process uniformly disperse solid particles throughout a liquid and suitable for high pressure pumping applications. First of all solution is introduced into the homogenizing equipment, which is further forced through a special valve, that too at extremely high pressure. The large particles then are reduced to a smaller size according to the application. High pressure homogenizer also ensures efficient use of active agents, that also reduces the production cost.

Uses of Homogenizers

This particular machine is very much essential to manufacture medicinal creams and lotions of required texture. It also helps to create more stable products as compared to other equipments like stirrers, agitators or colloid mills. The uniformity in particle size is achieved by applying pressure and stress. Homogenizers also ensures the product with higher stability, a longer shelf life and clinically more effective.

Features of Homogenisers

Usually contact surfaces of homogenizers are mirror polished and all exterior surfaces are made of stainless steel, as they are also ideal for sanitary environments. Since all the utilities of the equipment are integrated into the mono block structure, so the start-up and installation time get minimized. Designing of homogenizers is done in such a way that controls are comprehensive and fully integrated into the side of the stainless steel cabinetry. Piston pump of homogenizers produces homogenization. Usually materials are fed to pump from a hopper. Minimum residual product is lost. Low cost and consistent output is always expected in homogenizers.
