Spray coating machines are an extension of coating pans and are most suited for quick and uniform coating of
tablets, granules and pellets. The machines are made of stainless steel and apply liquid sprays or organic films onto a surface. There are various types of pharmaceutical coating techniques.
Spray Coating Process
This machine is used for applying a spray coating across the width of a glass ribbon. The glass ribbon is one which is carried on a conveyor moving below the machine. The process involves atomizing or aerosolizing of the liquid by a spray gun and coating the tablet or pellets. These machines are equipped with an internal device to prevent clogging; they also have a pneumatic regulating system which allows for the adjustment of a spray pattern without opening of the spraying equipment.
Features of Spray Coating Machines
- Most of the spray coating equipment has a pressure vessel which can be provided with metal jacket (for sugar coating) with thermostatically controlled heaters.
- There are pneumatic stirrers (oscillating type), safety valves, spraying nozzles in the machine.
- The spray coating machine also has a compact control panel and pneumatic cylinder for intermittent spray of liquid and air both. The timing of spray cycle can be adjusted.
- The coating is done by spray guns and can be adjusted horizontally, vertically, angularly. It can be swivelled too.
- Automatic Spray Coating Machine is mainly designed to replace the conventional method of manual coating of tablets
