Orthopedic Beds

Orthopedic beds are used in hospitals for orthopedic patiens. Nowdays many people have opt for orthopaedic beds for their own personal comfort at their homes as well.

Orthopedics or Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments. The patient has a medical condition that requires positioning of the body in ways that are not feasible in a general hospital bed.

Need for Orthopedic Beds
An orthopedic bed is needed if you wish to avoid back pain, muscular discomfort and get a good night's sleep. There are many people suffering from back problems, but in many cases the solution to this problem can be switching to an orthopedic bed instead of using the existing bed. A medical orthopedic bed ensures that the spine is held in the correct position. The human spine takes the well documented form of a double “S” shape and back problems arise when adequate support is not provided to the spine during rest. Orthopedic patient beds are adjustable beds designed with spine, skeletal and muscular support as their primary objectives and they allow the back to rest and recover from the activities of the day. Selecting a proper orthopedic bed is very important.

Features of Hospital Orthopedic Beds

  • The patient requires traction equipment that can be attached only to a hospital bed.
  • The basic feature of an orthopedic hospital bed is the orthopedic mattress. The mattress recognizes the body contours and pressure points and adjusts accordingly to offer optimal support.
  • There are adjustable orthopedic beds which can be adjusted manually with cranks attached at the foot ends.
  • These orthopedic beds can also tilt from side to side and move up and down using electronic switches and hydraulic oil pumps. This makes it easier for nurses to move the patients.
  • There are also orthopedic beds with remote motorized adjustment of the level of tilt and beds angle.
  • There are beds with heat and massaging features as well.

Orthopedic Dog Beds
There are orthopedic beds for dogs also which are great for their health. They are made of thick soft foam that shapes itself to the individual body shape of the dog. They provide additional comfort and support for dogs with joint problems or aging dogs in the same way that orthopaedic beds do for humans.

Love these. The problem is that those springs are not very...errr....'springy'. They are designed for 20tons+ so a mere human will not even move it so probably not very comfortable to sit on. (or not AS comfortable to sit on as it looks)
