Emergency Medical Equipments in a Hospital Trolley
Hospitals should always be ready to deal with any kind of emergencies . The hospital authorites, the nursing staff, doctors should be well prepared for emergencies all the time and for this they are always well equipped with refined procedures to deal with an emergency case that has occurred. To simplify and to keep the situation under control, medical emergency equipments well kept in the casualty trolley or emergency trolley are a must have in any kind of hospital or in a nursing home.
Emergency trolley should be kept ready to be used at all times and to maintain that the trolley needs to be checked on a regular basis by a Registered Nurse or a duly qualified person. The equipments that are placed on trolley are kept to cater to the needs of the patients and they are approved by the Departments of Nursing and the Medical Officer.
Hospital trolleys are equipped with following equipments

All emergency trolleys are equipped with at least one stethoscope. Type of stethoscope varies from department to department. For instance in a pediatric unit, a pediatric stethoscope will be found on the emergency trolley. On general wards, an adult stethoscope will be found.

These hospital trolleys have another instrument known as Artery Forceps. Artery Forceps resemble a pair of pincers or tongs, which are actually used for grasping, manipulating, or extracting, and are usually used by a surgeon. In the emergency situation, this instrument is used to hold a bleeding point until it is sutured or used as a mini pliers to undo joints. Mcgill’s forceps is another device found on an emergency trolley.

A piece of catton tape is also a part of hospital trolley and the actual purpose of this tape is to secure the ET Tube once it has been inserted into the trachea of the patient.

A scissors, to cut anything and everything is always placed on the trolley.

There is the need of a small flashlight (torchlight) on the emergency trolley to look into the patient’s eyes.

Another type of equipment found on trolleys is Heimleich valves. These sterile packings, one way valves, which can be attached to the tip of a chest tube to relieve a patient of pneumothorax.

An Introducer which is used to insert the ET Tube into the trachea of the patient is also found inn the trolley. Once the ET Tube is in place the introducer is taken out and discarded.

Other items which are found on the hodspital trolleys are ECG electrodes, Opsites, Guedels Airways, laryngeal masks, Oxygen tubing, suction equipment and a full cylinder of oxyen.
