Traditional Weapons Of Mysterious Ninja

Dark, mysterious and amazingly fast, Ninja were renowned for their vast arsenal of deadly weapon. The hand that wielded these weapons operated with a surgical precision eluding the silence, causing wounds and killing the enemies. Their weapons and tools could be easily hidden and used in different ways for a surprise attack. Innovative and experimental were the warfare tactics and Ninja weapons. The traditional weapons of the warlords can be categorized into the following:

 

Projectile Weapons

Shuriken: The most famous ninja weapon, "throwing star" A flat star shaped disc comprising of 3-8 blades, this was effective at medium range to distract and injure the enemy.

 

Token: Small throwing knives that could be much fatal than even a sword.

 

Makibishi and Tetsubishi: The small iron spikes were used by the Ninjas to hinder his pursuers and make a good space. It could be directly targeted at the enemy or on the ground, expecting the attacker to step on it.

 

Igadma: These were small ball like weapons consisting of spikes or poisoned needles which could be easily concealed in a house without looking conspicuous.

 

Dokubarinage: Small throwing poisoned needles used by Ninjas for surprise attack.

 

Fukiya: The blowpipe was a short range weapon used for assassination and distraction. It can be easily disguised as flute or cane.

 

Yumi and Ya: The Yumi (bow) and Ya (arrows) were shorter than battle field bow, so they could be concealed within the tube.

 

Hard Weapons & Blades
Bo, Jo, Hanbo, Rokushakubo, Tambo, Jawara, Daisharin: Sticks of different length and sizes used in close combat for technique of hit, leverages, etc.

 

Ninja Ken: Short Ninja words with straight blades, used not only for stabbing and chopping, but also for digging, climbing, etc.

 

Yari: Long spears with different types of blade. A common technique used against attacker with the sword, to keep them at bay.

 

Naginata: The halberds, a less stiff blade with long handle for close combat.

 

Kunai: Ninja dagger used for various purposes such as digging, climbing, breaking, etc.

 

Tanto: Specially developed Ninja knives for close combat.

 

Tekken: Brass knuckles worn around the wrists. The design of the combat tool gave it a bone breaking ability.

 

Tekagi: The metal claws featured design that not only gave Ninjas upper hand in close combat, but were also used for climbing.

 

Jutte: Iron bar with a small protruding iron side. The weapon was used by the Ninjas to strike and stun, or for painful locks.

 

Tessen: The iron fan that could make a harmful weapon as a small club, and if opened it could deflect projected missiles.
