Radial Friction Welding Machine
Share |

The machine is commonly used for radial friction welding process. The welding technique was basically developed for joining pipes. The process can also be used for welding metal bands around solid or tubular cylinders by means of rotating a solid ring and applying radial compression.
Welding Process
The welding process comprises of radial compression and rotation of a solid angular ring into a V arrangement extruding from the pipe ends to be welded. In order to avoid break down of the pipe ends and penetration of metals into the pit, the machine is supplied with an internal support shaft at the joint site. In radial friction welding, both the pipes to be welded remains stationary to produce frictional heat.
Uses & Applications
There are many different applications of radial friction welding equipment. Some of its common uses are:
-
Pipe welding
-
Military vehicle applications
-
Attaching ductile driving bands to projectiles
-
Wear resistant surfacing of shafts
