The welding machine is used to conduct induction welding, which makes use of electromagnetic induction to heat the workpiece. The machine is very much useful for welding plastic and thermoplastic composite materials.
Machine Description
The machine consists of an induction coil, a radio frequency generator; and fixtures to contain and align the parts to be joined
The generator produces a high frequency electric current in the coils, which in turn produces an oscillating magnetic field in the joint area
The parts to be welded must be transparent to the magnetic fields
Welding Process
The process uses an electromagnetic induction for welding the materials. The induction coil is heated by the high frequency generator. The generator generates a high frequency current in the coils, thereby producing an oscillating magnetic field in the joint area. The electromagnetic field acts on either an electrically conductive or a ferromagnetic workpiece. Eddy currents are produced by the high frequency magnetic field in the joining material through induction. The hysteresis loss in the process generates the heat. The bonding material melts and softens and the parts are welded under low pressure. The plastic solidifies again as soon as the magnetic field is removed.Generally, most materials undergo a combination of these two effects.
Uses and Applications
The induction welding equipment is used in several fields for various purpose. Some of its applications are:
Welding Plastic & thermoplastics
Welding steel
Radar or communication application
Automotive application
