Friction Testing equipment

Friction tester is an equipment commonly used to test frictional features of various materials in dry or lubricated interacting motion contact. Friction testers can be used to test a wide range of materials including metals, composites, ceramics, polymers, fluid lubricants, greases, cutting fluids, coatings, etc.

Salient Features

Available in various configurations like ball on flat, pin on flat and cylinder on flat contact area.
There is arrangement for electronic control of temperature, frequency and stroke length.
The equipment requires small specimen size or sample for testing.

Working of Friction Tester
Friction test is conducted by loading the specimen to be tested against a ball, pin, or cylinder undergoing interactive linear motion.
There is a force transducer to measure the frictional force developed at the contact interface.
There is a storage oscilloscope that records the output signal.
A unique velocity profile is created by the reciprocating motion of the ball. This allows to monitor static and dynamic frictional force over a wide range of linear sliding speeds.
Wear testing can be performed on the test specimen by evaluating the resulting wear scar with a profilometer.
