The flexural strength of a material is defined as its ability to resist deformation under load. flexural strength tester is a machine used to determine the flexure or bending properties of plastic materials. For materials like plastic that considerably deform but do not break, the load at output is marked as the flexural strength or flexural yield strength. The test beam is subjected to compressive stress at the concave surface and tensile stress at the convex surface. The flexural strength is expressed in terms of modulus of rupture.
The machine is widely used for many applications and in various industries.
Test Procedure
Generally, the plastic specimen is placed on a support span and the load is applied to the center by a loading nose that produces three point bending at a specified rate. The basic criterion for the test are the support span; the maximum deflection for the test; and the speed of loading the material. These parameters are based on the thickness of test specimen.
Applications
The flexural strength testers are widely used in different areas like:
Plastic Industry
Ceramic Industry
Concrete/Cement Industry
Rubber Industry
