Automatic Pigment Muller
Share |

The equipment is widely used for accurate and fast evaluation of color strength, color matching, dispersion, particle hardness and particle size, color comparison, tint and tone of paints. It is also used to evaluate the staining power and tone of coloured pigments, used in paints. The leftover of pigments and extenders on sieve, that is used in paints is determined by treating them with linseed oil or linseed stand oil to separate the agglomerates into primary particles and passing the paste obtained after separation through a 63 micron sieve.
The dispersion of pigments along with additives, can be carried out either by hand mulling using a palette knife or by mulling them in an pigment muller.
Salient Features
The important features of the apparatus are:
-
An automatic pigment muller consists of a flat horizontal glass plate, which is rotated by an electric motor and a reduction gearbox.
-
There is a non-rotating glass plate of same dimensions that is placed over the rotating glass plate.
-
The number of revolutions of the rotating plate are recorded on a preset counter that stops the motor automatically on completion of desired number of revolutions.
-
At the bottom of the lower glass plate, there are two concentric circles of 10 cm and 15 cm diameters respectively to provide an annular ring for placing the paint material to be mulled.
-
The equipment is constructed on a rigid base plate and is chrome plated to resist corrosion.
