Abrasion Testers

The equipment has multipurpose usage and is mainly used for testing abrasion resistance of plastic materials. Both dry and wet abrasion testers are used in plastic industry.

The apparatus is widely used for testing abrasion resistance of plastic materials. In fact, it has multipurpose usage and can also be used to test abrasion resistance of rubber, paint, plywood, leather and paper.

Abrasion in general, is caused by three main factors: the type of abradant, the surface area; and the force of abrasion on the material.

Salient Features

The features of testers are:

• The abrasion tester is provided with two brush holders for conducting side by side testing.
• There is a preset chamber in the apparatus for activating the machine for preset number of strokes and then switching it off.
• The apparatus is provided with a peristaltic fluid lamp.
• There is also an air cooled electric motor supplied with the tester.
• There is a removable container that is mounted on the side of the tester.
• Plastic materials to be tested are pumped to the brush heads from the detachable container mounted to the side of the tester.

Abrasion resistance is the ability of a fiber or fabric to withstand surface wear due to rubbing against another surface. Accelerated procedures allow the laboratory technician to determine wear performance or durability of a material as experienced in its actual use. Abrasion can be through flexing, rubbing, snagging, frosting or pilling. In addition to textiles, hosiery, plastic film, rubber sheeting, leather, paper and other materials can be affected by abrasion.
