PSA in Glass Industry
Share |

To meet the ever increasing economic challenges and stringent specifications of the glass industry, Pressure swing adsorption systems can give the right solution. Use of Oxygen as a fuel gives the glass industry the much needed alternative to the traditional air-gas burners. Oxy-gas firing as it is called is one of the best available technology for reduction in the energy consumption in melting/refining. PSA, VSA or Cryogenic techniques are generally used for Oxygen-fuel. Cryogenic techniques are generally used for large scale production while capacities requiring lower production PSA or VPSA can be used. The following table displays the energy requirement for producing oxygen through three different methods.
Demonstrated Benefits of oxy-fuel:
-
Lower NOx-emissions (up to 80% lower than that of conventional gas fired furnaces) Lower dust emissions (25% lower)
-
Improved productivity (much less gas-drawn heat is lost up in furnace stacks)
-
Significant improvement in product quality made possible through improved melter control
-
Improvement in energy efficiency
