Strapping machines can be classified in two categories :

Semi automatic strapping machine necessitates an operator who manually puts the packages, bundles, or box into the machines which are further strapped. Semiautomatic strapping machine is for low volume or moderate volume level used by a small business that has limited shipping or packaging needs.

Fully automatic : wherein the machine is connected to a conveyor belt and the products are strapped with least operator interference. The product is transported to the required strapping position; the strap is then stretched or tied around the product, sealed and cut off. Automatic strapping machine is usually required for strapping articles of the same or similar sizes, because it is set with an arch guide and can be converted to a semiautomatic strapping machine by detaching the arch guide. Large scale production or packaging, like postal offices, shipping companies, or a widely distributed newspaper company would probably use a automatic strap tools.
