Corrugated cartons are sealed by a water-activated tape, hot melt glue, self adhesive tape or staples depending upon what is being packed.

Types

• Water Activated Tape

Water activated tape requires water and tape dispensing machine. A permanent bond is formed when gummed adhesive penetrates into the cartons. It works even in dust or in extreme climatic conditions unlike other adhesive tapes that loose their sticking quality in such conditions. If tampered with, it shows on the carton as well as the tape. It can be easily printed upon and is preferred by many organizations for this quality. It is most suitable for heavy and large cartons. It is ideal if the cartons are to be transported or stored in refrigerated environment.

• Pressure-Sensitive Tape

Pressure-sensitive tape is easy to use transparent tape and ideal for automatic case sealers. Care has to be taken as the tape has a tendency to stick to anything it touches. It is not suitable to dusty environment and extreme weather conditions. It is best for lightweight shrink wrapped cartons. The semi automatic taping machines need the cartons to be fed by the operator. Some models may adjust to the size variations automatically and others may need to be manually adjusted. The automatic machines do not need the operator to do any manual works.

• Hot Melt Glue

Hot melt glue provides a strong bond and is not affected by climatic extremes. It adapts well to high-speed packaging lines. Only it is a messy process and requires high heat conditions. The carton is erected on the machine with the base and the minor flaps closed and passed on the line the glue is automatically applied on the underside of the flaps and sealed. The fully automatic machines can be attached to the production and filling lines. The carton in this case is automatically erected, filled and sealed. Many machines have no carton no fill systems.

• Staples

Staples hold the carton together even in stressed conditions. It is hard to open and tamper with. They are best used with overlaps or tapes. It needs carton-stapling machines that can be manual or pneumatic. Manual machines are suitable for low volume production lines and pneumatic for high speed bulk packaging lines.

• Castors

Castors come with brakes on all legs for maximum mobility. It has two top and two bottom drive belts for top and bottom model. It also has two drive belts for side drive belts model.

Adjustable table height, two motors providing maximum power for heavy boxes, fast and easy manual adjustment for height and width, top squeezers assure that the top flaps are properly butted together, sturdy double mast construction, self-centering width adjustment, compact with a functional design.

Moreover, every model is fitted with 3M's advanced, patented 3M Accuglide tape head which with light pressure and linear motion, guarantees that event light corrugated board cartons are sealed securely with 3M's packing tapes.
