SNH Plummer Block Housings

SN plummer block housings are used for light spherical roller bearings. They have a compact desig. Plummer block housings in SN series are used with the tapered bores with adapter sleeves and cylindrical bore with stepped shafts. This type of housing is horizontally split. It has dowel pins or straight pins that help avoid incorrect assembly.

The housing allows some amount of axial displacement. Locating bearing arrangement can be obtained by inserting locating rings between outer ring and the housing. This needs to be considered when dimensioning the shaft shoulder. They have elongated holes for attachment bolts.

SN plummer block housings need felt seals. Before inserting the seals, they should be soaked in hot oil for some time. They are rubbing seals and can be used for peripheral speeds. For harsh conditions or where there is presence of water, V rings need to be used with the felt seals on the machined side faces. This limits the axial displacement.

End covers are used to close the housings at the shaft ends. It is inserted in the seal groove. Grease lubrication is preferred for SN plummer block housings. They are made of gray cast iron. These housings are designed to carry loads that act at right angle to the surface.
