Spindles are rotating components or cylindrical devices that are used to hold the work-holding mechanism or tools to be turned or devices used to drive cutting tools or workpieces on lathes, milling machines and other machine tools. They refer to the the shaft to which the tool is attached or to the entire system that drives and holds the tool. The performance of a spindle in a machining center depends upon its power, torque (rotational force), maximum speed. Different spindles are used for different purposes.
