Brazing
Brazing is a typical metal joining process that is used to join two similar or dissimilar metals or alloys. Brazing is done above 450°C (842°F). During the brazing process, a filler material is used to join the two metals. The temperature involved in brazing of two metals are greater than the melting point of the filler metal but lower than the melting point of either of two metals. Just like soldering, brazing creates a very strong joint that is usually stronger than the base metal pieces themselves.
Many people sometimes refer to brazing processes as brazing procedures. However, there is a basic difference between brazing processes and brazing procedures. While brazing processes are the techniques or methods used for brazing or joining metals, brazing procedures mean the steps followed for doing brazing activities. If you are looking for steps involved in brazing.
As far as brazing processes are concerned, they require usage of a number of heating sources and different techniques. Different materials need different brazing processes for joining them. The following list contains information about popular and widely used types of brazing processes.
Types of Brazing Processes
As mentioned earlier, there are different brazing processes or techniques that are used to join metals. Some of the most populat brazing processes include torch brazing, furnace brazing, silver brazing, vacuum brazing, dip brazing among others.
Pin Brazing
Pin Brazing procedure is metallurgically safe and easy process of making electrical connections to metallic structures, such as steel and ductile iron pipelines.
Block Brazing
Block brazing is an important brazing process wherein the formation of a particular bonding takes place when heat is obtained from heated blocks. Read more about Block Brazing.
Vacuum Brazing
Vacuum brazing is a particular type of furnace brazing, where vacuum is created in the furnace for carrying out brazing process.
Induction Brazing
Induction brazing is a type of brazing process in which the joints are produced by the heat obtained from the resistance of the work to the flow of induced electric current.
Silver Brazing
Silver brazing is a very popular brazing process that allows a non-ferrous filler metal to be heated at a melting temperature above 800°F.
Furnace Brazing
Furnace brazing defines a process of joining metallic or ceramic materials using a molten filler metal which are drawn into the joint by capillary action or through preform it is preplaced.
Torch Brazing
Torch brazing is considered to be the most versatile method, since, its applications can be found in most industries.
Resistance Brazing
Resistance brazing is yet another vital process of brazing. It is actually the production of bonding which happens due to the obtainment of the heat from resistance to the flow of electric current in a circuit of which the workpiece is a part.
Diffusion Brazing
Diffusion brazing joins a wide range of similar or dissimilar metals, alloys, ceramics & non-metals ultimately producing small and large components.
Dip Brazing
Dip brazing is yet another brazing process which allows the bonding by producing heating in a molten chemical or metal bath.
Exothermic Brazing
Exothermic brazing depends on the heat source to melt down & flow the commercial filler which is generated by the reaction of many solid state exothermic chemical compounds.
Infrared Brazing
The radiant heat of the infrared heat which is obtained below the red rays in the spectrum is the main source of Infrared brazing.
Laser Brazing
Laser brazing is comparatively a new brazing technique in the world of brazing. It provides a suitable platform for the joining of the materials which pose difficulty to braze.
Other Brazing Processes
Apart from some well known and widely used brazing processes there are some less known brazing methods such as Arc Brazing, Electron Beam Brazing, Flow Brazing, Blanket Brazing, and Step Brazing. Read about all these lesser used Other Brazing Processes
