Perforator is a machine, which is used for making holes into varieties of materials, like papers, filter papers, steel sheets, etc. They take papers or other materials and cut tiny holes in a straight line. Perforations of papers make them easier to tear out and thus make them safe for the sensitive documents. Usually we confront with a number of perforated piece of paper in our daily life, in the form of tickets, coupons, checkbooks, warranty documents, forms and more.
Need of Perforation
If papers were not perforated, scissors would be required to perform the same function. More and more businesses are purchasing perforating machines to save money by doing their own perforating in-house. The perforated holes can't be erased. It is used for permanent and unalterable marking of documents.
Perforation machines are used in a number of businesses and industries. Most of the companies who need perforation in their products prefer to have their own in-house peroration unit instead of service of external agency. It saves money as well as time for them. It is especially beneficial for mailers and advertising, where a return card needs to be mailed back. The copy and print shops also require perforators, allowing them to facilitate the daily needs of individuals.
Types of Perforators Based on the Working
Perforators vary from simple manual devices to fully automated machines. On the basis of their working mechanisms, the paper perforators can be broken into three categories: Manual, Semi-automatic and Fully-automatic designs.
Manual Perforators: As the name suggests, these perforating machines require the help from outside. They typically work like a rotary paper cutter, requiring the user to slide the perforating wheel across a rail or bar.
Semi-Automatic Perforators: These perforating machines require manual setup, but they use an electric motor to complete the perforation process.
Fully Automatic Perforators: These machines are fully automatic and don't require external help during the working. They use a panel to set the machine up electronically and a motor is used to complete the perforation.
In Filter Manufacturing Industry
The perforating machines are also used in the manufacturing of filter machines. They are sometimes called perforation press. Here paper perforating machines are used to perforate the filter papers. They make the task easier and do it efficiently. In the filter machine manufacturing, the use of perforating machine has been increasing regularly.
Types of Perforating Machines
Perforators are also called perforating machine. Perforation needs to be done and is done on different types of metals and materials depending on the requirement of the users. The machines, which are used to perforate papers or plastics would be definitely different from the machines used to perforate metals. Usually there are three types of paper perforating machines.
Vertical or Flat-bed Perforator: The vertical perforators are very popular perforating tools. The punches and dies are set in a straight line. The punches are set in a moving bar and the dies in the surface of the table. Their major advantage is that at the same time a number of pages can be fed between the punches and dies against the adjustable guides. As the machine gets activated, the bar descends and punches a series of holes in the paper. The punches can be adjusted, in order to remove some of them, and is helpful if the holes are to be punched only part way across the sheet.
Rotary Perforators: The rotary perforators are capable of punching round holes, slits, or slots. The dies and punches are mounted on separate discs, which revolve against each other. The paper is being flowed between the two discs, with one edge against a guide. These perforators can be used to perforate struck lines as well.
Angle Perforators: One another type of perforating machine is the angle perforators. They can punch in both directions at one feeding. Actually it is a combination of two rotary perforators set at right angles to each other. They incorporate feed rollers to carry the sheets of paper from one set of perforating heads to the other. Special attachments can enable them to perform other operations, such as scoring, crimping, and slitting.
Metal/Plastic Perforating Machines
The metal and plastic perforating machines are different than the paper perforating machines. They are mostly used in the industries. Apart from providing the basic function, the metallic punchers are also used for decorative purposes. The perforating machines used in the industries don't work efficiently and they often fail to deliver. The drop in performance is mainly due to the metal, plastic and paper particles, which get stuck into the machine thus hampering the smooth functioning of the machine.
Perforator Blades
Perforator blades are one of the important components of the perforating machines. Different types of perforator blades are used for different projects. The blade types are based on the amount of teeth the blade possess. The teeth are the small notches used to punch tiny holes in paper. The blades used in different perforating machines have different number of teeth that punch varying number of holes per inch. The number of teeth depends on the requirement of the user. More number of holes punched per inch means the easier the paper is to tear.
