Burst Strength Tester

Information

Product Showcase

Bursting strength is the measurement of resistance to rupture in different materials. A test specimen is held between two circular clamps and is subjected to an increasing pressure from a rubber diaphragm. The rubber diaphragm is expanded through a controlled hydraulic pressure until the test specimen ruptures. The bursting strength of the test specimen is the pressure interpretation at the time of rupture.

Burst strength tester is equipment used to establish the burst strength characteristics for filter papers and similar media. The equipment provides results in kg/cm2. The equipment also comes with gauge type digital display models and can also be fitted with a device to measure and evaluate the deflection of the sample prior to burst.

Significance of the Test
The bursting strength test can be conducted for paper and paperboard, including liner board and corrugated board, and is a composite measure of certain properties of the sheet structure, principally the tensile strength and elongation. In general, bursting strength depends on the type, preparation, proportion and the amount of fibers present in the sheet and their internal sizing, formation, and to some extent, the surface treatment. Although bursting strength is an empirical property, bursting test, in combination with basis weight, serves to specify "standard grades" in commerce.

Principle
Burst strength tester can be used to test the resistance of a constant increasing pressure. The specifications of the test equipment may vary for different materials.

The equipment can be used to test the bursting strength of various materials, such as - paper, paperboard, corrugated board, non-woven, textiles, geo textiles, film, tissue, tobacco leaf etc.

Bursting Factor (B.F) of Paper = (B. S. x 1000) / GSM
* where B. S. is Bursting Strength in Kg / cm2,
& GSM is the substance of paper in grams per square meter.
