Types of Gearboxes
The European market is still remain the most potential market for the Manual Gearboxes. The history of manual gearboxes is very old. The traditional clutches are used in such kind of gearboxes. Each time, these gears are selected by electrically controlled motors. After the selection, these gears detach the clutches and the gears are shifted. Once the clutch gets free from the gear, it can be used again. The entire process is happened in very short period of time. Therefore, even when the cars are in gear, this gearbox system allows them to stop. The Manual Gearboxes are just about to maintenance free. Only in checking the oil level, some minimal expense is occurred.
A manual gearbox is known as a straight drive, stick shift or standard transmission. This kind of gearboxes can be used in automotive applications. In most of the cases, this type of gearboxes contain driver oriented clutch and a movable gear selector. Often this type of gearbox that are used in automobile, permits the driver to choose any gear at any time. But, those manual gearboxes that are used in motorcycles and few other types of racing cars, don't allow the driver the same thing as earlier. This types of gearboxes allow the drivers either to choose the next highest or next lowest gear ratio. This type of gearboxes is called as sequential manual gearbox. The number of gears that are available in the existing automotive manual gears vary from four to six with one reverse gear. But, the manual gearboxes (non-automotive) consist the least number of gears within a range between two to eight. Some manual gearboxes are well recognized by the number of forward gears. This thing helps in distinguishing themselves from automotive or other readily obtainable manual gearboxes. For instance, the automotive gearbox having 5 speed gears is referred as 5-speed automatic.
Manual Gearbox Vs. Other Types of Gearboxes
Manual gearboxes are featured by gear ratios that are picked-up by betrothing pairs of gears inside the gearbox. But, the automatic gearboxes possess the characteristics of epicyclic gearing which are controlled by clutch packs or/and brake bands. This thing also makes it possible to choose gear ratio. The semi-automatic gearboxes have mixed characteristics of both the manual and automatic gear boxes. Some automatic gearboxes which permit the driver to select current gear manually are called as semi-automatic gearboxes.
Types of Manual Gearboxes
There are mainly two types of manual gearbox. These two types are as follows:
Unsynchronized system Manual Gearbox
In Unsynchronized system manual Gearbox, the gears spin freely. The relative speed of the gears must be matched precisely to avert the noisy, damaging, colliding and crushing while to mesh the rotating teeth.
Synchronized system Manual Gearbox
As from the name, it is suggested that this type of manual gearbox doesn't require to match the respective speed of the gears within it.
