Gearboxes by Application
Construction machinery is one of the major segments where demand for gears is very high. According to recent market research reports, global construction machinery demand will grow nearly 6% annually. This market will be boosted by further economic recovery in a number of Asian countries. The single currency cross-border transaction will help European market to reduce cost, resulting in better trade. The recent value of the global construction machinery market is estimated at $75 billion.
Various types of industrial gears are used in the following construction machineries:
- Backhoe Loaders
- Excavators
- Wheel Loaders
- Rough Terrain Forklifts
- Bulldozers
- Skid Steer Loaders
- Mini Excavators
- Office Trailers
- Aerial Lifts
- Track Loaders
Use of Spur Gears in Backhoe Loaders
The backhoe loader is one of the most popular and commonly used construction equipment. The reason behind its popularity is that it has two useful tools in one machine, which makes the backhoe loader a unique and must-have for any kinds of construction project.
A backhoe consists of a four-wheeled vehicle, powered by diesel engine and an operator's cab in the middle and tools on both end. On the front, it has a loader; a wide bucket on dual arms that is used to either pick up loose piles of material or to push dirt back into a hole when a job is finished. The rear end has a backhoe, a hydraulic-powered digging scoop on a three-jointed arm, designed to dig through hard earth. The operator needs only to turn around in his seat to switch from digging a hole to filling it back up.
A wide variety of spur gears of small to large dimensions are used in gearboxes and other parts of backhoe loaders. Spur gears are straight-toothed gears with radial teeth that transmit power and motion between parallel axes. These gears are used in backhoe loaders for speed increase or reduction, torque multiplication, resolution, and accuracy enhancement for positioning systems.
Followings are the types of spur gears used in backhoe loaders:
- Metric include spur or pinion gears
- Change gears
- Cluster gears
- Internal gears
- Differential end gears
The teeth of straight tooth gears runs parallel to the axis of the gear. Racks and pinions, spur, internal and cluster gears are included in this grouping. A millimeter-based module designation is the main feature of Metric gears. Other types of spur gears may have curved or helical tooth paths or teeth on a conical surface.
