Welding Process
Welding is a commonly used fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing fusion. This is often accomplished by melting the workpieces and adding a filler material to form a bath of molten material that cools to form a strong joint. Sometimes pressure is also used along with heat to produce the weld.
There are various sources of energy that can be used for welding such as an electric arc, a gas flame, friction, an electron beam, a laser and ultrasound. Though largely an industrial process, welding can be done in many environments like open air, under water and also in space.
