Welding Process

Welding is a commonly used fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing fusion. This is often accomplished by melting the workpieces and adding a filler material to form a bath of molten material that cools to form a strong joint. Sometimes pressure is also used along with heat to produce the weld.

There are various sources of energy that can be used for welding such as an electric arc, a gas flame, friction, an electron beam, a laser and ultrasound. Though largely an industrial process, welding can be done in many environments like open air, under water and also in space.

Some of the common welding processes are :

  • Resistance welding process
  • Arc welding process
  • Laser welding process
  • Orbital welding process
  • Stud welding process
  • Electron beam welding process
  • Ultrasonic welding process
  • Friction welding process
  • Wave soldering process
  • Torch brazing process
  • Hot dip brazing process
  • Induction brazing process
