End Mill
End-mill is a cutting tool used in industrial milling applications. It is shank-type milling cutter. Usually a milling bit can cut in all directions, though some cannot cut axially. They are made of hard metals and steels. Hard metals are brazed to steel by the brazing process.
Brazing Process
Brazing is preferred above all other metal joining processes because it provides strong, clean and smooth joints. The most common brazing methods used are:
-
Induction Brazing
-
Flame Brazing
Brazing Alloys
Silver brazing alloys are used for the brazing of end mills. The constituent elements are:
Primary Constituents: Silver, Copper, Zinc, Manganese, Nickel.
Other Constituents: Aluminum, Bismuth, Cadmium, Phosphorous, Lead, Silicon.
Paper Knives
Paper knives are the simple cutting tools used in homes, offices and various other places. They are a good example of brazing application in the tool making industry.
Brazing Alloys
Silver brazing alloys are considered the best for brazing the paper knives.
-
Major Constituents: Silver, Copper, Zinc, Manganese, Nickel
-
Other Constituents: Aluminum, Bismuth, Cadmium, Phosphorous, Lead, Silicon.
Cutting Wheel
Cutting wheel is an example of brazing applications in the tool making industry.
Brazing Process
Induction brazing is used for brazing the cutting wheel.
Brazing Alloys
Silver brazing alloys are used for brazing the cutting wheel. The constituents are:
-
Major Constituents: Silver, Copper, Zinc, Tin.
-
Other Constituents: Cadmium, Bismuth, Aluminum, Lead, Silicon.
Hard Metal Drill
Hard metal drill is an another example of brazing application in the tool making industry.
Brazing Process
Induction brazing is considered the best brazing method for its joining.
Brazing Alloys
Silver based brazing alloys are used for the hard metal drill.
-
Major Constituents: Silver, Copper, Manganese, Nickel, Indium
-
Other Constituents: Aluminum, Bismuth, Cadmium, Lead, Phosphorous, Silicon.
Rock Chisel
Roch chisels are another example of brazing application in the tool making industry.
Brazing Process
The most common process used for its brazing are:
-
Induction Brazing
-
Furnace Brazing
Brazing Alloys
Copper brazing alloys are used for the brazing of rock chisels. Copper constitutes almost 85% of these alloys by weight. Manganese and cobalt are other two main constituents.
Circular Saw Blade
Brazing has found a lot of applications in the tool making industry. Circular saw blade is one them. It is a metal disc or blade with saw teeth on the edge as well as the machine that causes the disk to spin. It is used for cutting wood or other materials. It may be hand-held or table-mounted. Now-a-days most of the saw blades are powered by electricity. They are made of steel on which hard metals, consisting of tungsten carbide with 5 to 13% cobalt, are brazed onto the steel.
Brazing Alloys
Silver based brazing alloys are used for brazing the circular saw blades. Their main constituents are silver, copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel respectively by weight percentage. Other elements present to lesser extent are aluminum, bismuth, cadmium, phosphorous, lead and silicon.
Brazing Process
The most common method of brazing the circular saw blade is induction brazing.
