Stability
Stable. Supports combustion. Incompatible with organic materials, phosphorus and many powdered metals.
 
Toxicology
Inhalation of high doses of oxygen may lead to hyperoxia.
 
Hazards Identification
  • May cause breathing problem.
  • Can cause central nervous system depression.
  • May cause lung damage and throat soreness.
  • May cause coughing and chest pain.
  • High concentrations of oxygen causes cramps, dizziness, nausea, ambylopia, hypothermia, respiration difficulties, and convulsions capable of leading to death.
 
First Aid Measures
  • Never use oil into the eyes without medical advice.
  • Remove contaminated clothing
  • Flush affected areas with lukewarm water.
  • If irritation continues, seek medical advise.
  • Wear protective clothing in recuing victims.
  • Remove victim from affected are and allow him to inhale fresh air, as soon as possible.
  • Keep person warm and at rest.
 
Fire Fighting Measures
  • Wear self-contained breathing musk and PPE.
  • Wear protective gear.
  • Cool fire exposed containers using water spray.
  • Remove containers from affected area.
  • Stop the flow of oxygen which is supporting the fire.
 
Accidental Release Measures
  • Move away from the area
  • Proper air ventilation should be ensured
  • Remove ignition sources
  • Stop release
  • Do not enter basements and workpits where its accumulation is hazardous.
 
Handling & Storage Handling
  • Protect cylinders against physical damage.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Avoid inhalation
  • Do not work on a pressurized system.
  • If there is a leak, close the upstream valve.
  • Use storage containers suitable for storage and distribution of Gaseous Oxygen.
  • Store in cool, dry palce.
  • Preferable store in fireproof area.
  • Store away from heat and flammable sources.
  • Store away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not store oxygen cylinders near elevators, corridors or loading docks.
  • Do not drag, slide or roll oxygen cylinders.
  • Do not drop cylinders or allow them to strike each other.
  • Do not heat cylinder.
  • Do not use oils or grease.
  • Close main cylinder valve after use.
