Q 1. What is a cylinder testing station?
Ans : A cylinder testing station is used to test cylinders. It is used to evacuate the cylinders received from customers which might be containing some left over impurities.

 

Q 2. What contaminants are found at the gas plant site?
Ans : In addition to the naturally occurring gases and oils, a number of contaminants/impurities like moisture, dust, asbestos, mercury, sulfur, hydrocarbons etc. normally associated with oil and gas production are found at the gas plant site.

 

Q 3. What are nitrogen generators?
Ans : Nitrogen generators are a piece of equipment used to supply a constant flow of gaseous nitrogen at purities up to 99.9%.

 

Q 4. What is a PSA plant?
Ans : PSA plant, also known as pressure swing absorption plant, consists of a pair of columns filled with carbon molecular sieve (CMS). The plant produces oxygen, nitrogen and other gases using CMS, which allows the smaller molecules in the input air to flow into the CMS, whilst the larger molecules of nitrogen bypass the CMS to generate the output gas. PSA generators can achieve higher purity levels.

 

Q 5. What is a membrane generator?
Ans : Membrane generators use some hollow fibers which separate gases by the principle of selective permeation. Through the membrane wall, the faster permeating gases diffuse quickly, producing an output of nitrogen up to 99.9% pure.

 

Q 6. What are cryogenic plants?
Ans : Cryogenic plants are gas plants producing gases in the cryogenic process, which involves using a very low temperature to separate air components and achieve the required gas.

 

Q 7. What are non-cryogenic plants?
Ans : Non cryogenic plants produce gaseous products by using near-ambient temperature separation processes. The plant makes use of differences in properties like molecular structure, size and mass to generate oxygen or nitrogen.

 

Q 8. What are industrial gases?
Ans : A group of gases like acetylene, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane, nitrous oxide etc. that are commercially manufactured and sold for uses in other applications. They are used in many industrial processes. These gases may be both organic and inorganic and take various forms such as compressed, liquid, or solid.

 

Q 9. How are gases produced in gas plants supplied and distributed?
Ans : Gases can be distributed to the application areas via pipelines directly from the gas plant. Other modes of distributing is by using cylinders, tube trailers, liquid trailers etc.

 

Q 10. What are the different types of air separation plants?
Ans : The different types of air separation plants are cryogenic, non-cryogenic, single product, multi-product, high-purity, lower-purity etc.
