Needless to say that printing is a significant medium of Advertisement, Entertainment, Education, and Information and it spreads over almost all parts of the economy, such as Government, either local or central, Retailing & Manufacturing, Tour & Travels, Financial and Retailing, Distribution and Financial industries, and so on. The influence of printing industry is so robust that it is considered a spearhead for the economy of any country.
 
You will be surprised to know that India is the second largest newspaper market in the world after China. Daily circulation of newspaper in Japan is estimated at about 69.7 million where as United States stand at 53.3 million and Germany at 21.5 million, though China tops the list and its daily circulation of newspaper is about 96.6 million.
 
More than 8000 daily newspapers are published in India, besides a great number of weekly and fortnightly periodicals. Over 250,000 small, medium, and large printing machines, Indian printing industry alone has accommodated and employed more than 1.6 million people.
 
India is the fastest growing printing industry riding on the growth rate of 12 per cent annually, and its market value is estimated at over USD $12.81 billion between 2008 and 2009 as well as it has been visualized that this industry would get at USD $25.1 billion by 2012. Indian printing industry has gone through a revolutionary transformation in the last 15 years because of liberalization of economy and privatization of the industries. Inflow of investment in buying latest technology and sophisticated machinery has led the industry to modernization.
 
Industrial Achievements
Nowadays, India is one of the chief producers and manufacturers of the printed materials which have made brilliant marks in the international forum by wining a number of rewards and recognitions for excellence. Indian printing jobs are reigning supreme in the global market, so the standard of quality got improved overwhelmingly and production capacity got expanded widely. And thanks to the advent of Information Technology that has added another mileage to printing industry, and it has turned a chief impetus to the future development and expansion of the sector. It is to inform you that books, journals, and other printing jobs are exported to over 120 countries of the world both the developed and the developing nations.
 
It is unfortunate for a large number of Indian Printing companies which are restrained to their local areas because of shortage of funds. But now the Government has initiated a couple of effective actions in order to bolster the industry by dint of relaxation in foreign investment regulation that has helped the printing sector expand further.
 
Newspaper, Periodicals and Magazines publishing houses are sanctioned 26 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and government is assessing the request for uplift in FDI from 26 to 49 per cent. 
 
The printing machine market continues to expand and will keep progressing because several printing academic bodies are operating across the nation which are producing over 2000 printing graduates every year. The prospect of printing industry in India is promising because international players of printing industry started stepping into the market, with the aim of capturing wide and  untapped market. And thanks to galore consumerism, leading the sector to the peak of development.
