Carpentry Tools : Right way of using and selecting a carpentry hammer
Carpentry is one of craft work that requires certain hand tools. Hammer is such a basic hand tool which is used in light carpentry works. We all know the basics to use hammer in right way but often tend to misuse and probably end hurting ourselves. It is not only the case in few people, but most of us faced the same issue. Here are some proven rule of thumb to avoid such small accidents and save your thumb from painful bruises.
- The first thing is to identify the right hammer for the right carpentry work to be done. For normal use at home, go for claw hammer which has double-prong on the back of the head. The claw could be used for pulling out nails.
- To fasten a nail in the wood, place the nail and push the tip into the wood with hand to imprint. Doing this will help in balancing the nail when you fasten it into the wood.
- Press the nail thumb and forefinger of your other hand. Catch the hammer about halfway up the handle and gently tap the nail into place until it holds on its own.
- Adjust your grip when holding the handle. It will maximize the influence when fastening the nail and allows the hammer to do the right task. Let the weight of the hammer fall forward into the nail when you swing. Avoid pushing the nail in with your arm strength.
