Benefits of Using Peristaltic Pumps
Peristaltic pumps work by pressure and displacement. They pump liquids through a tube unlike most other pumps in which some parts of the pump come into direct contact with the liquid. Peristaltic pumps are a very common tool for pumping liquids in medical settings. Since the mechanical parts of the peristaltic pump don't come into contact with the fluid directly, it has found variety of uses in situations where sterile fluids are required.
The peristaltic pumps work on a technique called peristalsis, from where this name is derived. I will describe this technique here to make you understand. The pump pushes fluids into a hose. Then the fluid flows into the pump casing through the hose. After reaching there, a rotor with several rollers compresses the tube forcing the liquid through the pump and pushing it to destination. While using a peristaltic pump, the fluids should be kept in a pure environment. The hoses must always contain the same fluid.
Peristaltic pumps can be used in many machines in medical environment like dialysis machines, heart-pumping machines, and IV machines. They can also be used for liquids meant for consumption.

Non-contamination
Peristaltic pump ensures a contamination-free pumping system. The fluid always remains inside the tubing so there are no chances of coming in contact with any mechanical parts of pump like gears, diaphragms, seals or any other moving part. Therefore choosing a pump compatible with a particular solution is made so simple as just choosing a chemically compatible tubing.
These properties make peristaltic pump suitable for transferring high-purity, chemically aggressive fluids or abrasive solutions. It makes you worry free about contamination, corrosion or wear and tear on parts. As far as sterilization of tubing is concerned it can be done through autoclaving, gamma irradiation or ethylene oxide gas application.

Besides tubing replacement there is very little need for maintenance. Tubings should be replaced at proper intervals in order to maintain flow performance. It takes just few seconds so you can use the same pump to transfer different types of liquids by just changing the tubing.

The inside of the peristaltic pump is dry so no worry about having to protect the pump from moisture. The moisture keeps inside the tube. Since less waterproofing is required, peristaltic pumps are cheaper to manufacture when compared to a liquid pump.
