Q1. Do installation of air filters help in asthma?
Ans. Some health organizations and associations recommend air filtration. According to them, controlling the sources of allergy-causing pollution and ventilation can help in asthma. Researches don't agree on whether or not air filters give added relief from asthma in well ventilated and clean home. However air filters can help in controlling the causes of asthma, but they can't be a solution to your allergy problems. A lot of allergenic particles reside on surfaces like rugs, furniture and counter tops than suspended in household air. In that case the air filters can't help in any way.

Q2. What points should be kept in mind before buying an air filter?
Ans. Before purchasing an air filter, there are certain points which should be seriously considered so that you may get the efficient and appropriate filters suiting your requirements.

The most important point is that you should know what substances the filter removes and what it doesn't. It helps you in selecting filter of your choice.

You should also know the efficiency rating of the purifier.

The choice of the filter should be according to the size of your room.

Another important thing is that the filter is easily replaceable or not. How much the filter cost and how frequent does it have to be changed?
You should also check out that how much noise it creates during the operation? Is the sound quiet enough to sleep comfortably?

Ans. Ozone is a highly reactive form of oxygen and cause irritation in eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. It is a primary constituent of smog. The use of ozone purifiers at residential level is not safe if its use exceeds a certain level. The maximum safe residential level is 0.05 parts per million (PPM) and occupational exposure at 0.10 PPM for short periods. Its use can create serious threats for asthma sufferers. Apart from that, infants, children, and older people are more sensitive to ozone.
 

Q6. What are electrostatic precipitators?
Ans. Electrostatic precipitators are also called electronic filters. They create electrostatic charges to attract pollutants and trap them on collector plates. Their main advantage is that the collector plates can be easily washed in the dishwasher and never have to be replaced. However if the collection plates are not cleaned regularly they quickly lose efficiency.
