Three Phase Transformer

A three-phase transformer is generally constructed by winding three single-phase transformers or a single three-phase transformer. Three-phase transformers are able to step voltages up or down. When a set of single-phase transformers is used to transform three phases, it is referred to as a three-phase bank of transformers.

 

Working Principle
Three-Phase transformer needs to have 3 coils or windings connected in the proper array to match the incoming power supply. This leads to the transformation of voltage supplied by the power company to the level of voltage that is required to maintain the proper phasing or polarity.
