A push button switch is a mechanical switch having an activation method in the form of a plunger that is pushed down for opening or closing the switch.

Pole and Throw Configurations

Double pole single throw (DPST): This switch has four terminals and makes or breaks the connection of two circuit conductors in a single branch circuit.

Double pole double throw (DPDT): This switch has six terminals and is available in both momentary and maintained contact versions. The switch makes or breaks the connection of two conductors to two separate circuits.

These switches can have recessed, flush, or raised actuator. The function can be either maintained contact, alternating contact, or momentary contact.
