Tactile Switches
Share |

A tactile switch is a type of electrical switch that gives the user tactile feedback in the form of a snap action when the switch has been actuated. This switching device includes a base having an extended bowed spring provided with a peak portion, and a slidable actuator having a cam-shaped surface.
These tactile switches are momentary contact devices, which operate when depressed with a force of between 100 and 300 gm. These tactile switches are also generally single-pole single-throw elements and are designed for high-density mounting.
The actuator in the tactile switch is an elastomeric actuator top that impinges on a metal contact. Applied force exceeding a certain point pushes the contact onto stationary contacts to complete the circuit. Contacts can be either gold or silver depending on design requirements.
These electrical tactile switches are available in:
-
Surface-mount style: These have crimped terminals with a spring action for ensuring secure mounting during automated soldering.
-
Through-hole style: These have gull-wing terminals for mechanical stability during soldering.
