Latch is typically a fastener, designed to join two or more objects or surfaces together. At the same time, a latch allows for the regular separation of objects or surfaces. The design and style of latches are diverse and depends directly on the size and type of window for which they are used.
Window Latches can be a single piece flat spring of metal or multi point cam latches. There are some spring-loaded window latch that can be used to lock the window in open position. Turning the lever allows the bolt to close under spring pressure. Spring loaded latches are designed for easy release and provide security to the window. Latches are generally installed vertically at the top or bottom of the window.
Materials Used
Window latches are usually cast of metal or metal alloys. Some of the common materials used are:
-
Brass
-
Iron
-
Aluminium
-
Bronze
Window latches are available in various finishes. Polished brass finish, black finish, zinc finishes are popular for window latches.
Latching Mechanism
There is a storm window latch mechanism that allows easy removal of a storm window sash when the latch is set in one position. At the same time, the window sash is protected within the mounting framework when the latch is in a different position. The mechanism also permits the sliding up and down movement of the window. The latch mechanism is facilitated by a spring slider along with a low friction slide component.
