Spring Hinges

Spring hinges are designed to allow doors to close automatically or be held in the open or closed position. This type of hinge has flanges or leaves that attach to the door and jamb and in turn are connected to the hinge pivot point (barrel). The springs in the hinge offers energy to close a door from the open position and in some instances, to open a door from the closed position. Single acting spring hinges are suitable for use on fire doors.

 

Spring pivots are fastened into the heel of a door and are then fastened to the floor and head with pivots. A spring hinge employs pivot points at the top and bottom edges of a door.
