Cylindrical Lock

Cylindrical Locksets generally have a rounded body designed to fit into the intersecting holes that are drilled into the door. The cylindrical lockset derives its name from the actual shape of the lockset mechanism and the cylinder into which the key fits. The deadbolt bar that slides into a corresponding opening in the doorjamb is the main source of door security.

 

Materials used in Cylindrical Locks

These door locks are given exquisite finishes to prevent them from corrosion. Polished brass finish, antique black finish and oil rubbed bronze finishes are common among cylindrical door locks.

 

Durability option for the cylindrical door locks are varied. Usually cylindrical locksets come in three categories: residential, commercial and heavy duty, although all these can be installed in residential doors.
Cylindrical door lock is easy to install. The installation requires simply drilling two holes. A large hole is bored on the surface of the door meant for lockset mechanism, while a smaller hole is drilled at the edge of the door for latch mechanism. Doors with pre-drilled holes are also available. An integral deadbolt lock is also available with cylindrical lock. If one wants to install a standard cylindrical lockset along with a deadbolt lock, two additional holes must be drilled. Locking and unlocking of these mechanisms require insertion of the key into an additional key slot.
