Cabinet catches are available in different shapes and sizes and selecting appropriate catches for your cabinet is important.

Materials Used
Cabinet catches are usually cast of metals like:
  • Cast Iron
  • Aluminium
  • Brass

Types
Cabinet catches are of various types. Some of the popular types include:
Magnetic Catches
  • These cabinet door catches are the most popular ones among all cabinet catches and are best for cabinet doors in the kitchen as well as bathroom.
  • They are usually perfect for irregular or warped doors. They are also suitable for glass doors.
  • These catches have a metal plate that mounts on the door with the magnetic part fixed on the frame. Magnetic touch catches open and close with a light push on the door.
  • Proper contact between the magnet and strike is important for precise functioning of the catch.
  • High quality magnetic catches employ a floating or self-adjusting action to allow proper alignment and contact.

Spring Roller Catches

  • They are an ideal alternative to magnetic catches.
  • Spring roller catches come with a single or a double roller. These rollers are set close together and are installed on the cabinet frame.
  • The single roller design is perfect for doors that slide open. For example, they are best suited for a closet door or pull out drawers as in these cases, the roller goes over the lip in the catch to operate.
  • The double roller catch usually consist of a strike mounted on the cabinet door that moves into or around the catch that is installed on the surface of the cabinet.
  • Spring roller catches operate quietly and are easy to install on most door and frame designs.
  • The catch is concealed when used on an inset door. It closes when the rollers hook on the strike plate.

Friction Catches

  • Friction catches offer a secure grasp of the door.
  • There are two parts of the friction catch that operate with spring tension similar to the roller type.
  • The catch is invisible when used on an inset door.
