Porcelain is the most popular material for any type of bathtub as it is the strongest of all material and last for a long period of time. To make these kinds of bath tubs steel molds are used that are then applied with porcelain molds. The whole structure is then subjected to very intense heat for strong and non porous look. Porcelain bathtubs are heavier than acrylic but lighter than some other types of bathtubs. Very durable, resistant to acid and corrosion. While buying do ask for the gauge of steel used in making bathtub. Low quality bathtub can chip and then the exposed surface becomes susceptible to rust.
Bathtubs made from cast iron are the most expensive but really great in terms of durability and looks. Molten iron is used to make the cast iron bathtub. But the biggest disadvantage is that these are very heavy and can be scratched with sharp objects.
Then you have the option of ceramic and glass tile bathtubs. It is difficult to find. Tile bathtub is made from the small mosaic tiles that are placed in a unique design and patterns. It can cost you more as these are difficult to make. Also as the tiles are cold material so wont give insulation to the bathtub.

Clawfoot type of bathtub is an item of luxury and known for its claw. Original clawfoot bathtubs are made from cast iron and porcelain. But with technological advancement fiberglass has replaced the porcelain that has also reduced its price to a large extent.
There are 5 major styles of Clawfoot Bathtubs
Classic Roll Rim - one round and one flat end.
Slipper tubs - In this type of bathtub one end is raised and sloped.
Double Slipper Tubs - In this type of bathtub both the ends are raised and sloped.
Double Ended Tubs - Both the ends are round.
Pedestal Tub - no claws but a pedestal.
