Door hardware is available is all different kinds of materials with an array of finishes, shapes and sizes. Door hardware accent the look of the house as a whole.

Brass: The door hardware made of brass creates a heavy feel with sharp details. Brass metal is usually yellow in color and can be used as a finish or coating for another material.
 
Acrylic and Nylon: These are synthetic plastic materials that offers a durable, wear resistant quality.
 
Ceramic and Porcelain: This is a natural clay product with a durable finish, used mainly in making door knobs. The finish is transparent and generally glazed in a shade of white. It can be painted on in an array of decorative designs. This material for door knobs offers an elegant appeal.
 
Pewter: This finish is available in brushed and polished finishes. Generally used for Georgian/Traditional styled door hardware. Antique pewter darkens with time because it is an alloy of lead, but, modern lead-free pewter hardware will not darken soon. Lead-free pewter is also more durable than pure varieties and hence recommended as a popular door hardware.
 
Stainless Steel: Stainless steel material for door hardware is very popular. This metal has higher resistance to oxidation (rust) and corrosion in many natural as well as man made environments. Stainless Steel hardware is given different finishes like fine abrasive finish, matte finish, reflective finish, mirror finish etc.
 
Zinc: This metal is used as a base for a variety of decorative finishes.
 
Wrought Iron: To give a very decorative look to your door hardware, wrought iron is very popular. Wrought iron is a commercially pure iron, having a very small carbon content and it is tough, malleable, ductile and can be easily welded.
 
Bronze: Bronze is a type of copper alloy, usually with tin as the main additive, but also with other elements such as phosphorus, manganese, aluminium, or silicon. Bronze usually develops a patina but it does not oxidize beyond the surface. It is widely used in making door hardware with an antique look.
 
Copper: This is a reddish-coloured metal, with a high electrical and thermal conductivity. This metal shares many characteristics with gold and silver.
 
Cast Iron: Cast Iron is another material used to make door hardware. This is actually a gray cast iron or any of a group of iron-based alloys containing more than 2% carbon.
