Various components of Audio Systems
Audio system fitted in automobiles is usually composed of four different groups of components. They are discussed as follows:

The Head Unit
The head unit is considered to be the heart and soul of the system. It acts as the central processing device in the system. All changes, functions and controls are governed by head unit in the car audio system. Head unit also controls volume, bass etc. Other systems controlled by head unit includes tuner, cassette, equalizer, CD or amplifier. -
The Amplifier
All audio systems must have an amplifier and it is not uncommon in car audio systems. Sometimes, amplifiers are attached to the back of the head unit, but in most systems it is fitted elsewhere for better dispersion of heat. Amplifying the signals is the main aim of amplifiers, which is handled by two separate components, namely, preamplifier and power amplifier. -
The Speakers
Speakers are responsible for taking the amplified signal from the power amplifier and deliver it to our ears. -
Auxiliary Input Devices
There are some components like CD changers and equalizers, cell phones, navigation systems, MP3 players and many of the newer technologies that interface with the head unit for amplification and signal processing.
