Kitchen Linen Items and American Textile Outsourcing Trends
Home furnishing industry is ever expanding as the demands of the consumers and number of consumers are raising. Although the bedroom and drawing room furnishing are of utmost importance but the kitchen furnishing is also gaining momentum and at present there are so many products of kitchen furnishings that it is sometimes wondrous to see them all. Cotton is the most favourable fabric that is used to make the furnishing products which include table runners, table cloth, napkins, mittens, tea cosy, table mats, table pads, table skirting, doilies, table covers, luncheon mats, tray cloth, pot holders, tea towels, dish clothes, cheese cloths, tray cloth, aprons and lemon bags. World wide the percentage of total industry of kitchen related items in terms of sales is 5-10%. USA and Europe has the biggest consumers and buyers of these kitchen linen products. To meet the ever mounting demand the production of kitchen linen is outsourced to other countries in which India and China are the main focus.
Along with cotton , kitchen furnishing products are also made from linen fabric that is also preferred by the buyers. Linen fabric consumes 5-20 times less energy and water in its production if compared to other synthetic or natural fabric. Although silk kitchen furnishing products are also there but these can catch fire easily and more expensive.
Ever growing demand for kitchen and table linens fuels the American trend of outsourcing large quantities to meet the demand. Most of the table and kitchen linens are now beautifully patterned and made in various colors. With the festival and season, demand for the color and pattern varies. Like close to Diwali every one wants to have bright colored kitchen linen items where as Christmas and New Year bring the range of red color kitchen linen items. Pattern changes can also be seen during this time. From multi colored cold stripes to earthy geometrical patterns can be seen on these. The type of product also define the color, design and pattern.
India is the most preferred location for outsourcing table kitchen linen products by USA and European companies. The designs and patterns of table kitchen linen from India are also fascinating and liked by the maximum number of buyers as India has the long history of art and culture. In India, kitchen linen items contributes 14% of the total Industrial production and 30% of the total exports. Along with foreign exchange revenue and employment to many are the added advantages. China because of the easy availability of raw material, manpower is ahead of India in producing large quantities of table and kitchen linen.
Extensive variation in design, pattern and weave is seen in the place mats or table mats made from linen or cotton. You will also see these in jute, plastic and flax and bamboo. After this are the napkins that again are made from cotton and linen. From India embroidered, painted and printed table napkins are exported to US and Europe. Table runners in cotton, linen, straw and jute are exported from India having embroidery and brilliant patterns generally on the four sides. Also the table runners having crochet edges are in demand. Table covers are also outsourced from US to India as in India the manufacturers make beautiful embroidered and applique worked table covers. Also bead work and hand embroidery is preferred.
Therefore demand for kitchen linen items fuels the American trend of outsourcing and at the same time helps the country's to which it has been outsourced to grow in terms of revenue and capital.
