Cross stitch is an old embroidery form in which X shaped stitches are worked to form a picture. It is also known as counted cross stitch, so that it is not confused with other its other variants. It was about thirty years ago that cross-stitch's popularity was revitalized. And in these last three decades, there has been production of many new gorgeous fabrics and threads, and hundreds of thousands of embroidery designs from simple samplers to intricate works of art, all made of cross stitch.
It is easy to learn and works well on Aida fabric. There are two ways of making a basic cross-stitch. The first method is used when working rows of stitches in the same color. The first step makes the bottom half of the stitches across the row, and the second step makes the top half. The second method is used when making single stitches. The bottom and top halves of each stitch are worked before starting the next stitch.
Apart from fabrics like cotton, silk, linen, and satin are used in abundance for making nicely styled cross-stitch. A cross stitch embroidery kit will provide you with beautiful color cotton threads, Aida fabric, needle and a stitching guide. Alphabet cross stitch is perfect for embellishing your dresses. Stitching block letters may be difficult but it is fun to play with the alphabets. It is the most popular form of embroidery work found on kids clothes. One can create beautiful embroidery patterns and bring a touch of class to the fabric with this stitch.
