Broad chain stitch is a variation of chain stitch which is also known as reverse chain stitch. It that can be used in outlines and filling. As with most chain stitches, this variety is it is easy to sew in the beads and the stitch curves well. A bold line can be created with this stitch, when it is worked on a even-weave or plain fabric. A firm thread should be used to work this stitch,so that finished results are achieved. A soft thread will not hold the shape of line so well.
Broad chain stitch is worked in a downward direction,by stitching a detached chain stitch. This stitch should be in upside down direction. From the base of the detached chain stitch, the needle is to be brought out of the fabric. Some space should be left for one chain stitch. In the next step, needle should be sliced from the base of the chain but not the fabric and brought back to the initial position. The thread should be pulled lightly to get a good shape chain loop. The same stitch is to be repeated until the design is complete.
This stitch can be used for stitching heavy patterns or giving working lines a heavy appearance. It is excellent way of high lighting shapes and figures, but it is very important to remember that thread should not be soft and should be kept slightly loose while working this stitch.
