Bokhara Couching

It is a decorative stitch worked with a single thread unlike usual couching that uses two threads. It is a wonderful way of giving landscape effects. Interesting patterns can be made by arranging the positioning of the couching stitches. The neatest effect is where the next row of couching stitches stitches are put half a stitch to the left of the ones on the laying stitch above. This gives a diagonal effect.

 

In this style of stitching,couching threads are placed together with the help of tiny cross stitches. These stitches may be aligned in a proper manner to result in beautiful patterns. One thread and one needle is required to work bokhara couching. first of all a straight stitch is stitched across the fabric,then the needle and thread re-emerge,and while returning they stitch the long thread down. To hold this laid thread in place,small stitches are stitched.

 

Bokhara couching is used to fill the patterns and shape of an embroidery design. Unlike other couching stitches,this stitch uses a single thread which is worked as both,couching thread as well as laid thread thread. Variety of patterns can be formed using this stitch. Apart from the regular horizontal stitching and row by row stitching technique there are several types of self-couching techniques which can produce marvelous designs.
