Cinnamon oil is derived from cinnamon plant through the distillation process. This essential oil is volatile in nature and is extracted from the bark, leaves and twigs of the plant. The oil finds a number of application in different industries as a flavoring agent. Cinnamon bark oil is the most expensive of all essential oils.

World Trade of Cinnamon Oil
Srilanka is the largest producer and exporter of quality cinnamon oil to the other countries. It accounts for around 70% of the cinnamon oil global production. Cinnamon bark oil is a highly demanded and a high value-essential oil, though the international trade volume is low. Initially Srilanka has a monopolistic control on the cinnamon oil market and trade, but in the recent years other Asian countries have also started producing the oil in response to the increase in demand.

 

The major market for cinnamon oil is France followed by USA. Hongkong is another significant exporter of cinnamon oil. India produces quantities of cinnamon leaf oil, mostly for domestic consumption. Madagascar and Seychelles are other important suppliers of leaf oil.

 

Use of Cinnamon Oil
Cinnamon plant is found in a large variety. The use of the oil depends on the kind of plant that is distilled and also on the part of the plant used to extract oil. The product finds a wide use in a number of products and industries including:
