• PR 106 is the rice variety that is grown in Punjab.
• This variety currently accounts for 80% of the area of Punjab under rice cultivation.
• It was introduced in 1976.
• The grain is long and white.
• Its kernel length is 6.63 mm.
• It is fine and aromatic.
• It is considered resistant to white backed planthopper and stem rot.
• It has become susceptible to both diseases, in addition to succumbing to rice leaf-folder, stemborer, hispa and many other insect pests.
