• It grows well in sandy clay and clayey soil.
• It can be cultivated between the months of July and January.
• Kajal is a hindi word which means collyrium. This variety is known as "Lakshmi Kajal" since the grains of this variety are black in colour like collyrium.
• The grain is dark red in the flowering stage and and it becomes black in the milky stage and on maturity.
• The rice is brown and coarse. It is ideal for making idly and dosa.
