Brown rice, on the other hand, is appreciated for its nutritional value over other rice varieties. It has all the natural rice nutrition intact due to the minimum processing it goes through. How to Cook Brown Rice?

Cooking brown rice is as simple as white rice. Here is how to cook brown rice for two persons in a rice cooker. For cooking more brown rice, increase the amount proportionately according to number of people.

  • Take 2 cups of brown basmati rice. Rinse and put it in the rice cooker.
  • Add 3 cups of water. Use the ratio of 1.5 cups water to 1 cup rice.
  • Put the lid on and set the rice cooker to start cooking brown rice.
  • Let the rice cook for about half an hour.
  • After about 30 minutes, give it a quick stir so that it doesn't stick to the bowl.
  • For added flavor, mix some soy sauce or have it with your main dish as simple brown rice too tastes great!

Spicy Brown Basmati Rice Pilaf Recipe
Get the following ingredients for making this rice pilaf.
  • Brown basmati rice- 2 cups
  • Brown or yellow mustard seeds- 1 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut or safflower oil- 1 tbsp
  • Onion (diced)- 3/4 cup
  • Garlic (minced)- 1 tbsp
  • cinnamon stick- 1
  • Whole cloves- 2-3
  • Fresh ginger (grated)- 1 Tbsp
  • Salt- as per taste
  • Turmeric- 1 tsp
  • Water- 3 1/2 cups
  • Cauliflower florets (blanched)- 1/2 cauliflower
  • carrots (shredded)-1/2 cup
  • Raisins- 1/2 cup
  • Almonds (roated)- 1/2 cup
  • Rice wine- 2 tbsp

Now follow the below instructions for making delicious aromatic brown basmati rice pilaf.
  • Rinse and drain rice.
  • Heat a large pot (with solid base) on medium with oil in it.
  • Add the mustard and cumin seeds. As the seeds begin to pop, add onion, garlic, cinnamon stick, cloves and ginger and saute over medium heat for about 4 minutes.
  • Now add brown basmati rice, salt and turmeric and cook while stirring until the rice is completely coated. Do this for about 1 minute.
  • Add water, stir, cover and simmer over low heat for about 45 minutes.
  • See if the rice is tender. If yes, add the blanched cauliflower, carrots, raisins, almonds and mirin and stir well.
  • Serve with curd.
